The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that repair work is underway following a major pipeline burst that disrupted water supply across several areas of the city. According to the municipality, Mayor Cyril Xaba has expressed satisfaction with the progress made by uMngeni-uThukela Water in addressing the failure.
The affected infrastructure, known as the 53 Pipeline, plays a critical role in Durban’s bulk water supply system. The pipeline delivers approximately 30 million litres of water per day from the DV Harris Waterworks to the uMlaas Road Reservoirs, from where water is distributed to various parts of the municipal network.
